Who is DJ Shane
Phoenix?
For those who do not know, here is the answer.
"The Early
Years"
DJ Shane Phoenix was born in upstate
New York, in the city of Utica, in the beginning of the Winter of 1970.
He was the fourth and final child
born to Anita and Douglas Cook. Anita was an avid social worker and civil rights advocate of the day and Douglas
was a truck driver.
At the age of four, Shane and his
three siblings were taken out of their home and placed in foster care after a neighbor complained of the multiple
abuses that Douglas was subjecting upon them.
Shane, and his older brother, Sean,
were placed in separate foster homes while his two sisters, Elizabeth and Kimberly, were placed together in another
home.
Shane spent the majority of his youth
going from one foster home to another, some 28 in all. Some were good and some... not so
good.
One of the better foster homes
sparked something in Shane. He remembers one family who had a great love of music. He calls this family the start
of his musical enthusiasm.
"There was this guy who played the
piano, he was super good and I loved listening to it. My sisters where there in the same home, and I remember we
would run around the house singing 'Leaving On A Jet Plane' all the time. To this day it is one of my favorite
childhood memories." recalls Shane.
In 1987, Shane was placed with New
York State's D.F.Y. (Division For Youth). It was in the summer that Shane had his first brush with a future he did
not want.
