"The Start Of A
Career"
After the Army tours (Iraq, Bosnia,
Somalia, and a second tour in Iraq) Shane found himself back in clubs getting work as a
DJ.
"1996 was a great year; I was
spinning in this club in Syracuse, New York where I was going to college. This guy walks up to me, requests a song
and asks me what I used to remix my music. I told him two turntables and a recorder. He gave me a business card and
said 'Call me tomorrow.' I called him back a week later to discover he was with SONY, in the research side of it,
and wanted to know if I wanted to partake in a testing group for some computer software they were developing. I
said 'Sure, what do I get?' What I got was the start of a DJ Revolution."
"Back then remixing a song was very
complicated and recording it on the spot was even more so. The software they were developing allowed a DJ like me
to record, edit and add samples on the fly in real time. THIS WAS AMAZING! The software later became known as Sony
Acid©®. It allowed me to hear a brand new song, edit it and remix it, and then play it in the club THAT night. I
became very popular soon thereafter."
