He explains it this way, "I was
really heavy into the martial art of Chinese GoJu and I was in this group home with kids my age. We were out back
sneaking a cigarette when this one kid started pushing me around. I tried to go back inside and when I turned my
back he hit me in the back of the head."
"My anger took over and I went off, a
counselor tried to break up the fight and I even turned against him. In the end the kid ended up with three broken
ribs and a fractured collarbone. The counselor ended up with a fractured wrist, a broken ankle and a fractured
cheek bone."
"I ended up spending 15 days in a
real county jail, not a juvenile detention center. I was expelled from my martial arts school and not allowed to
participate in tournaments for three years. The judge took pity on me though and sentenced me to one year probation
and my record would be cleared on my 18th birthday if I had no more trouble."
"During probation, my probation
officer saw something in me, I don't know what, and he assigned me to participate in the Boys and Girls Club of
America. One day while there, I heard this kid going crazy on just an old record player and a record of Jazzy Jeff
and Fresh Prince. I was amazed and asked him to teach me that. D'jon and I became best friends. That winter D'jon
was killed in a gang shooting. I still miss D'jon, and I credit him with further sparking my love for music and
adding scratching and remixing to it."
